Mrs. Flanagan, with pupils from St. Patrick's Primary
School, presenting a picnic table and bench in memory of
her late husband Patsy who was the first principal of the
school.

In January 1956, Patsy (principal) and Jane Clarke (assistant
teacher) and 60 pupils left Glenmacoffer Primary School
for the last time and took up residence in the brand new
St. Patrick's Primary School in Gortin. Mrs Flanagan joined
her husband on the teaching staff in 1958. Patsy remained
principal of the school until his retirement in June 1989,
serving the school for 33 years. He will always be
remembered for his ability to get the best out of each
individual and his teaching strategies would have been
well ahead of their time. He believed greatly in providing a
broad and balanced curriculum within the school, an aim
which is still very much evident in our school today.

Patsy's memory will live on in St. Patrick's for many years
to come.
