Homework |

Homework is regarded as an essential element in children's education. It has many advantages in that it provides extra time for practice, application and consolidation of new skills taught in school. It provides parents with an insight into stages of learning which their child has reached and reinforces a powerful link between home and school. Written homework is not given to P1- P4 pupils at the weekends. During the week P2-P7 pupils are normally given written homework. Spellings, tables, and reading are also given in varying degrees. Tin-whistle lessons begin in P3 and it is very important that the children spend a little time each evening practising. |
Suggested average times for Homework: P1-P2 15-20mins P3 20-30mins P4-P5 30-45mins P6-P7 45-60mins |
Please remember that the amount of homework varies according not only to age but also to the ability of your child. Please try to make a habit of signing your child's homework each evening. |
A FEW TIPS Always turn off the television while your child is doing their homework. Give the child a little while to unwind when they come in from school but make sure that the homework is done early in the evening. As the child begins to get tired he/she loses the power of concentration and it will take much longer to complete the work. |
