"The new Primary school at Scraghey, in the parish of Aghyaran,
which was blessed and opened on Sunday last week by Rev. P.Mac
Loingsigh P.P. who afterwards celebrated Mass in the new building.
There was a full attendance of teachers, together with a very large
congregation of the parishioners. The new school is a splendid
example of modern design and pictureesquely situated on Scraghy
Hill, makes a very pleasing picture. It has large airy classrooms
wdith central heating throughout. A feature of the design is that all
the classrooms and offices are easily acessible from the main
entrance hall. Mr W.H.D. McCormick, on behalf of the architects,
Messers Corr & McCormick (Derry) presented teh Rev. Manager with
a silver key as a memento of the occasion and Mr J. McHugh, on
behalf of the builders (Messers McHugh & Hill Ltd) presented a
name-plate in ulti-bond lettering for the building. Fr MacLoinsigh,
receiving gifts, thanked the architects and builders for their
kindness, help and co-operation during the progress of the work. He
also paid tribute to the people of the parish for their enthusiasm
and support of his efforts in raising funds for the new school."
