Millennium Forum - June 2008 - Summer Show
Music
Music-for-All is a vital
element within our school. We
believe that all children have
a love of music and we
endeavour to find their area of
strength. All classes follow the
Music Express scheme which
allows the children to explore
the many facets of music
making.
We also involve
all children in
the seasonal musical
productions:
1. Christmas Carol Service
2. Christmas Nativity Musical
3. Easter Passion Play
4. End of Year Summer Show
We take all of our shows out of
school to maximise the
children's experience; we use
our local Church of the
Immaculate Conception, the
superb Waterside Theatre
and most recently the
Millennium Forum, thus making
each show a more memorable
event for parents and children.
Recent theatre productions
have included the popular
Joseph and The Technicolor
Dreamcoat
and three
successive
Variety Shows, with
over 300 children on stage in
the various theatres used.
In addition to some children receiving tuition through the WELB
Music Service, we also give more of our pupils the opportunity to
learn an orchestral instrument via the Extended Schools Initiative.
Tuition is now offered on saxophone, flute and clarinet and this
may be extended to include brass and strings. The aim is to have
a school orchestra so that those children involved can experience
the excitment of making music as part of a large group.
The school is now well-known
for its end-of-year shows and in
June 2009 weonce again hired
Derry's Millennium Forum for a
night. Every seat was sold - an
audience of over 1000 - and
every child got to perform on
one of Ireland's largest stages.
This was another mammoth
undertaking for us but one that
was really worthwhile - the
children loved being on stage
and the memories of that night
will last for a long time for all
those present.
