Lisnaskea Workhouse
The Workhouse in our
home town of Lisnaskea
was an important facilty
during the famine times.
It provided food, Shelter
and clothing for over 800
people during the bad
famine years. The
workhouse in Lisnaskea is
still standing today and
still is just as impressive
as it was when it was
finished being built in 1841
following the declaring of
the Lisnaskea Poor Law
Union in 1840. It was
originally built for the local
paupers but when the
famine struck it was used
for the swelling numbers
of people needing aid and
relief.
This is a map showing where
the workhouse is situated in
the town.
