Gods and afterlife The Egyptians believed in many different gods. Some were well known and some were only worshipped in certain towns. The Egyptians thought that their gods sometimes disguised themselves as animals and birds when they came to earth. The Egyptians built temples for the gods. They believed that the gods lived in the temples and that the pharaoh could go and visit them there. It was the job of the priests to look after the temples. They took gifts to the gods and said prayers and hymns. Ordinary people were not allowed into the gods' sanctuary in the temple to worship with the priests and the pharaoh. |
