Welcome to Newbuildings Primary School. We are a very happy school where everyone works together to
achieve the very best for the children.

Newbuildings Primary School is situated approximately four miles from the city of Londonderry. The
school is built on a 6 acre site and has large playing areas and an extensive grass field with a football
pitch.
The school was opened in May 1955 and originally consisted of three classrooms, toilet block and a small
kitchen. Today we have ten classrooms, two large resource areas for practical activities and structured
play, two quiet areas, a music room, assembly hall and P.E. hall, offices, staff room, school kitchen and
dining room. There is a recent and very well resourced library and an I.T. suite.

The original caretaker's house, which apparently was a prototype of its kind back in 1955, was
demolished in 2002 and a stimulating Community Nursery built there. This opened for the first time in
September 2002.
At the back of the school are two mobile classrooms, one of which is used for Reading Recovery and
Special Needs and the other is a classroom.
