11+ Dates The 2 tests will be held on the mornings of Friday 5th November and 19th November. On these mornings, children not taking the tests are requested to remain at home until 11:10am. Book Fair Our annual Book Fair will be in school from 24 to 30 November. There is usually an excellent range of children's books and, being so close to Christmas, it is an excellent opportunity to purchase some really educational and interesting presents. The school benefits greatly from the commission on sales at the Book Fair, which means the more that is spent, the greater the number of resources we can acquire for the children's benefit in school. We thank you for your past support and look forward to welcoming you back this year. Further details of shopping times will be circulated in due course. P1 Home-times After Half-term the Year 1 children will stay until 2.20pm. This means they can be collected with their Year 2 and 3 friends. We would ask that this time be strictly observed as the teachers have to move on to take other classes after this and it is really disruptive to the school if they have to stay at the door watching for late-comers. Punctuality It is a matter of some concern that there seems to be a habit of poor punctuality to some degree in all classes. We would stress that the class routine is disrupted when a teacher has to deal with latecomers, but perhaps more destructive is the effect the lateness has on the children involved. We ask parents make every effort to bring their children to school on time. Fruity Friday At last year's Annual Parents Meeting, parents agreed to support the school in promoting increasingly healthy break-times. Our Fruity Friday has been successful over the past few years and we would encourage parents to extend this initiative to other days in the week. Parents at the meeting agreed the school should actively discourage large chocolate bars and sticky candy bars. As you know we are already unhappy with the children having fizzy drinks and thankfully coke etc, do not appear very often. This drive for healthy eating is not done to be dictatorial, but rather to encourage the habits of a good balanced diet which the children will hopefully take with them into adult life, and to ensure their brains have the best "fuel" to cope with effective learning on a daily basis. |
