Gortin lies ten miles north of Omagh in the valley of the Owenkillew River, overlooked by the Sperrin mountains. Its population of around 226 people lives in a village heavily dependent on agriculture for its economy, but the village is also developing the tourism potential of this area of rugged beauty and tranquility. Tourist attractions in the area include the Ulster History Park and the Gortin Glen Forest Park.

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is livid that Ulster Council refused to take up the option of playing the Tyrone V Armagh match at Croke Park. The Ulster giants clash in the first round of this year's provincial championship on May 31 and Harte has always said that this novel meeting of the reigning All-Ireland and Ulster champions should be played at Headquarters.
