Termoncanice is one of a small number of primary schools in Northern Ireland to have a Promethean Interactive Whiteboard in every classroom. Interactive Whiteboards perform the operations of a basic computer, the functions of a mouse performed by a special pen. The boards come with an excellent software package, packed with Flipcharts designed to engage the children.

Termoncanice principal, Mr Seamus Coyle, has made a huge investment in the Promethean Whiteboards. He believes the boards will significantly enhance the quality of teaching and learning In Termoncanice. The interactive nature of the boards will help deliver the curriculum effectively to different abilities and different learning styles.

Each week Mr Toner , the ICT coordinator, has been busy with Mr Coyle training the staff in the usage of the Promethean Whiteboards. Many of the staff have become proficient in their use and have attained the first level of Promethean accreditation . In time the school aims to be a Promethean School Of Excellence .

Promethean Whiteboards can play DVD's and in time we hope to view educational broadcasts on them. The ActiveVoters are excellent devices which compliment the boards. They allow pupils to answers questions on the board via a keypad. At the end of a session the results are available to the teacher to be analysed. This allows the teacher to quickly assess for learning looking at the individual needs of each child. The data will provide the teacher with the name of each child, how many questions they got right and how quickly the child answered the question.

Interactive whiteboards provide a superior teaching aid to Termoncanice teachers, giving them the opportunity to teach tomorrow's generation today.
