Each member of the school community is of equal worth, having positive and
individual contributions to make. We believe as teachers we have a
responsibility to provide learning experiences which will enable children to
explore and maximise their potential.

At St Columbkilles we will ensure that the curriculum:
* is centered on the needs, interests and experiences of the child and
provides practical and investigational teaching and learning activities.
*is developed around skills, concepts, values, attitudes and knowledge that
we as Catholic teachers would want our children to acquire. It promotes the
appreciation of human dignity and the acquisition of values such as truth,
respect, integrity and love.
*is broad, balanced and well organised with clear objectives and shared
goals so as to ensure consistent school-wide practice, providing
opportunities for both subject specific teaching and the cross curricular
approach to study.
*fosters respect for other traditions, values and beliefs within the context
of mutual understanding.
*promotes excellence at every level of school life, positive reinforcement,
rewards and disciplinary rules are seen as more effective than punishment
and criticism.
*empowers pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and plays an
active role in the life of the wider school community
* is enriched by the involvement of parents in pupils' learning.
*is monitored to focus attention on how well the school achieves its goals,
informs planning, teaching and pupil progress.
