Ladies In Victorian times the ladies wore 'bustles'. These were fixed around their waist and stuck out behind. The ladies would not have been able to rest their bodies on a chair when they sat down, so they would have been very tired. Ladies would also have worn hats to match their long gowns and gloves. |
Gentlemen All the gentlemen would have worn a smart suit with tails. They always had a 'Top Hat' and wore gloves. All gentlemen carried a cane. When Victorian men met, they would take off their hat and gloves and shake hands (without dropping the cane!) This must have been very difficult |
