Altishane Primary School has an excellent success record in local and national competitions. In recent years the school has scooped the top prize in the Western Education and Library Board Section of the Belfast Telegraph Building for the Future Competition for two successive years. In 2003 the children extensively studied their local bogland and were awarded £ 6000 for their project. This has enabled the school to purchase a magnificent interactive whiteboard trransforming teaching and learning opportunities in the school. In 2004 the children produced a newspaper on the historical theme of the famine in the context of their local area. The project provided the children with exciting opportunities to explore different writing styles. The children and staff were delighted when they were awarded £5000. In 2004 the children in Key Stage Two entered a history Project organised by Strabane District Council in conjunction with Gray's Museum Strabane.
